In 2004, Collings and Nugget began a collaboration to build a limited run of Tim O'Brien model mandolins. The spruce and maple top and back sets came from Nugget's wood stock, and then Mike Kemnitzer hand carved the top and back plate to his meticulous standards. Finally the mandolin was assembled and setup in the Collings factory in Austin.
